Can't open Thunderbird with the -no-remote command option

Messagede MicketsBR » 18 Novembre 2010, 14:33

Hello,

I have (1) Thunderbird installed on my computer, and I use it regularly for work.

I also have (2) Thunderbird in LiberKey, with my personal profile.

I can run (1) with the "-no-remote" option, and it works fine. But then I try to run (2) with the exact same command parameter, it says that "Thunderbird is already running...".

Strange, because I swear that I could do it before.

Basically, I want to have one (1) TB installed normally on the computer, and (2) a separate one under LiberKey. And be able to run both at the same time.

For LiberKey I put the command line parameters in the shortcut properties, in the LiberKey menu.

Ideas?

Hello Mickets.

Your Thunderbird (1) and your Thunderbird (2) doesn't have the same path (for thunderbird.exe).
LiberKeyPortabilizer prevents launching of your Thunderbird (2) in order to avoid conflict with data used by your local Thunderbird (1)

At this step, the parameters aren't yet send to your Thunderbird (2).
LiberKeyPortabilizer doesn't run it until your local is close.

You can use Thunderbird of your LiberKey with you local profile.

In parameters of a new shortcut:
Code: Tout sélectionner
-profile "C:\Users\***\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\*****.default"

Does your LiberKey is on USB drive ?

No. LiberKey is under C:\LiberKey

Thunderbird is on an encrypted TrueCrypt volume, under Y:\LiberKey\Apps\Thunderbird. I kept the same folder structure as the original LiberKey structure, and I also had to add the data and LiberKeyTools folders, so ThunderbirdLKL would launch properly from this folder.

You see, I don't want my personal mail profile in the C:\ drive. And I like to have my personal profile run in a separate folder, so I can sync it with my profile on my Desktop PC at home.

But, as you say...
Code: Tout sélectionner
-profile "C:\Users\***\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\*****.default"

I could simply move my personal profile to an encrypted volume, and make a shortcut to open it as you describe above. I believe all extensions and settings are stored in the profile's folder, so this could play the trick.

Let me try and I'll come back.

OK, it seems to work.

I'm starting to like this very much  . I think I can leave Thunderbird in the same default folder under C:\LiberKey, and have both profiles (work and home) stored in other drives. And launch both together if needed.

Great.

Now this will be very, very awesome if I can do the same with my Firefox profile.

Yes, you can. That works for Firefox too.
