Computer lost LKS association

Postby Fangles » 03 February 2011, 13:53

My computer had a problem recently and lost all file associations, including LKS so I can't install offline files and can't update from the catalogue.

And Windows 7's file association chooser won't let me reset it, the chosen program never appears in the list of programs selected to be associated with it.

Does anyone have a way to force Liberkey to be re-associated with LKS files so that I can install my offline collections please?

Windows 7 can be a real pain in the *** sometimes, it does these things and I can't fix them.

You have to select "enable file associations" from Liberkey Menu -> Liberkey Tools and "enable file associations at startup" from Liberkey Menu -> Liberkey Tools -> Liberkey Configuration

They are already on and have been since I installed Liberkey on this machine.

My windows 7 stubbornly refuses to allow LiberKey to reassociate LKS files no matter what I do.

Many other program associations don't work wither, not just LiberKey and I don't know why this happened and can't fix it.

From explorer window, opens Tools -> Folder options, then select "file types" tab and look for LKS extension and remove the extension.

There is no "file types" tab there.

I got frustrated and searched through the registry with regedit, no LKS file extension there.

Then I tried; as a last resort; to manually drag and dropping an LKS file on the LKINST.EXE program manually and that worked.

So now I can install files manually and will have to leave it like that until I find out how to fix whatever trashed my file associations.

LiberKey is more important to e than all my other programs (GRIN).

I gave up as nothing could fix my computer. ALL associations were trashed.

Ended up reformatting and reinstalling everything.

By the way, watch out for Macrium Reflect backup software. I made extensive backup images to cope with just this sort of problem.

It complains that it can't restore an image in windows as the drive is locked (Acronis can!) and then it can't find the drive to restore to when you use the boot mode!!! (Acronis can!!)
