[solved] Problem Liberkey Install / Update

Postby palmthree » 24 February 2012, 17:44

Hello,
i'm running Windows 7/64 and had many problems to install or update Liberkey 5.xx.
The problem was "avira premium", specially the webguard function. The solution was
to deactivate "avira webguard" during install/update. Liberkey runs now like a charm.
Perhaps it could help someone.

Avira is known to be too restrictive, we can't do anything for that, sorry...

I really like the new LiberKey platform, and appreciate its general ease of use in keeping itself and all of its applications up-to-date.

However, I, too, am running Windows 7/64 and using Avira (Internet Security 2012), and have the same difficulty with LiberKey updates.

Every time I want to update LiberKey and/or 1+ of its applications, I need to:
1. Temporarily turn off Avira's WebGuard.
2. Do the update.
3. Turn WebGuard back on.

I've tried using PortableApps (a LiberKey alternative), and that (both the platform AND its applicatons) is able to update with Avira's WebGuard on.
So are other applications, including Windows Defender, AFO (American Family Online)'s TotalNetGuard (an Internet filter), Quicken, TurboTax, etcetera.
I was wondering, "What does LiberKey do differently?"

Thank you.

Do you report it to that umbrella corporation (Avira team)?

I'm installing trial to my machine to see it, but it has only an ordinary 32-bit Windows XP...

I'm using trial 2012 version in a Windows XP and all is ok.

Which version of Avira Premium do you use?

The function is called "Web Protection" or "WebGuard"? For me it appears as "Web Protection".

To be honest, I don't know but as far as I remember it is due to the "proactive defense" of Avira, this is not mandatory to deactivate the whole antivirus but only this proactive defense

who marked as solved?

if the solution is disabling webguard, it is not "solved"/"fixed" but something like "as is"/"normal behavior"/"solved partially"...

Thank you all for your help with this.

My problem was with Avira Internet Security 2012.

In preparing to report the problem to Avira, I found a similar Avira-LiberKey problem ("Update of software of an USB key") described in their forum.
My apologies for not checking there sooner.
Some general solutions were suggested there, which helped me to determine what to try.

For anyone experiencing a similar problem, here's what made the problem go away.
I did 2 things to the LiberKey installer program
(file ...\LiberKey\LiberKeyTools\Installer\LkInst.exe):

I went to Avira's "Internet protection->Web Protection" page and clicked on <Configuration>.
From there, I went to "Internet protection->Firewall->Application rules".
On that page, I did an <Add application> for this file (LkInst.exe), and set the Action to "Allow" (rather than "Ask" or "Deny").

From Windows Explorer, I brought up "Properties->Compatability->Privilege Level" for this file (LkInst.exe).
I made sure that "Run this program as an administrator" is checked.
(I don't remember whether this was PREVIOUSLY Checked OR I CHANGED it to Checked.)

I'll post this detailed solution on the Avira forum.

Re: [solved] Problem Liberkey Install / Update

Good morning.
I've installed the 5.7.0430 version and trying to update the applications I get the message that the LiberKey must be updated first:
- LiberKey Menu v5.7.15
- Language files: cs-CZ, pl-PL, hu-HU, sl-SI, it, en, fr, de, es.
Updating the LiberKey I always get the following error message:
LKPatcher v1.0.8
An error occured during data decompression!

As suggested so far, I turned off the Norton Antivirus then started the Liberkey but I continue to get the same error!
How can I overtake this?
Thank you
bimax
