1 liberkey and 5 PC's syncing with dropbox

Postby Einherier » 01 December 2010, 03:29

I using liberkey from harddisk with 5 PC's at home and work. I installing it only 1 time and sync the folder with an app called dropbox. If I change any file at one PC it will be change direct at all other PC's.
The syncing is very fast because it syncs not the complete file, only the changing piece of the file will be sync and that is most only some bits.
If I instal a new app, minutes later the app is ready at all other PC's. When I am deleting an app it was deleted at al PC's. When I am add a new bookmark in my browser, one minute later it is at all PC's added.
You protect your liberkey with true crypt? No problem. Drop box synct your closed container, and only the changes inside, not complete. Unbelievable.

For someone it will be interest, what I wrote.
Sorry for my bad English.

Thanks for the report, I've been doing something similar with my own LiberKey, but it fails when you leave application open in other machines, and then things might get corrupted. (like when my home PC is used by my family, and my work PC are used at the same time)

Have you encountered this issues also?

i do not use the same app at the same time with 2 pcs. problems are expect so.
every family member had a own pc and is connected with (dropbox/liberkey).
but every user had a own chrome profile, that will be started with shortcut parameters.
if i want to start my own browser on other maschine, i close the browser with the remote tool "vnc" (liberkey app) on other maschine. some apps with individual settings are more than one time in liberkey. for every user a installation.

Here the parameters for starting chrome with a named profil and outsourced cache.
Dont work with "ChromeLKL.exe", only worked with the original "Chrome.exe.

Chrome\Chrome\chrome.exe --disk-cache-dir=C:\ChromeCache\ -user-data-dir="..\Profil\MyName"

Hello.

Einherier wrote:Here the parameters for starting chrome with a named profil and outsourced cache.Dont work with "ChromeLKL.exe", only worked with the original "Chrome.exe.
Chrome\Chrome\chrome.exe --disk-cache-dir=C:\ChromeCache\ -user-data-dir="..\Profil\MyName"

You are right.
The parameter -user-data-dir is used by default during portabilisation process. So a command line like
ChromeLKL.exe -user-data-dir="..\Profil\MyName" has as result
chrome.exe -user-data-dir="your_liberkey_path_\Apps\Chrome\Data\Profile" -user-data-dir="..\Profil\MyName"

The second -user-data-dir isn't understood by Google Chrome.

The management of this case has now been added in the instructions of portabilisation. Next update of Google Chrome, you will be able to use the parameter -user-data-dir with ChromeLKL.exe. (available in the next update of Chromium too).

some apps with individual settings are more than one time in my liberkey. for every user an installation.

is there an official way to install an app 2x,3x,4x times, i do that manually in "myapps"

What is the amount of free storage in Dropbox (DB)?

I tried SugarSync (SS), that have 5GB of free storage, but I had following troubles:
- SS does not "auto merge" some files - it only renames different with appending computer alias to filenames. Does DB do that?
- SS dos not store file history. Does DB do that?

I would like to synchronize my liberkey with my 3 pcs and my two portable devices where i'm using it but it seems there is some matters by using dropbox ?

Can you tell me if it is working or not, and if yes, do you know alternative with more space (my liberkey need 4,2Go).

Thanks

Try BTSync. You can sync every folder with many computers and Android Handys in realtime over WIFI in a local lan, internet and mobile without the cloud. = unlimited space and no slowly uploads. Its a great tool.

You're right, Bittorent Sync is a great tool but (there is always a "but") when I used it some month ago, it used a very big amount of memory (more than a gigabyte) whioch does not decrease when downloads/updoads were completed. I hope such memory leaks has been fixed in the meantime.
