AkelPadAkelPad
AkelPad is an open source editor for plain text. It is designed to be a small and fast. Screenshots: Features
* Editing of files, which size is more than 64K (generally speaking, size isn't theoretically limited); * Full support of Unicode strings on Unicode systems (NT/2000/XP/2003); * Support of Unicode codepages (UTF-16 little endian, UTF-16 big endian, UTF-8); * Support of any codepage installed in the system; * Support of DOS/Windows, Unix and Mac newline formats; * Preview file open; * Correct pseudographics displaying; * Column text selection; * Multi-level undo; * Fast search/replace text strings; * Remember file codepage and caret position; * Printing of a document and print preview; * Support of language modules; * Plugins support (syntax highlighting, auto-completion, scripts execution, keyboard macros and much more). Operating Systems compatibility: All 32-bit Windows (from Windows 95 to Windows 7) License: BSD License Advantages: In my opinion, this is the best Notepad replacement program. Small and as fast as the original (Windows) notepad, but much more powerful. Plugin architecture allows to add additional features like Autosave, Line Numbers, Macros, Toolbar, etc., etc. Website: http://akelpad.sourceforge.net/en/index.php
Re: AkelPadwhy would this software be any better then Notepad++ or any of the other 2 text editors already on Liberkey?
Re: AkelPadI already have
Re: AkelPad
I think that these are two different software categories. Notepad++, PSPad and RJ TextEd are "heavy-duty" text editors. They are all excellent programs (I use PSPad myself), but they're also much heavier than Window's Notepad. Of course that they have many more features. On the other hand, many times you don't need ALL of the features that those editors provide but simply need a fast text editor that can handle the task. That's the other software category I'm talking about: a lightweight, fast-loading, but full-featured text editor. And that's where AkelPad excels. A simple example will help to highlight these differences: I'm currently running both AkelPad and PSPad on my PC. AkelPad is using 1188 K of memory, PSPad is using 13024 K. Over 10 times more than AkelPad. Yet AkelPad has a lot of features for such a small program. On top of what is mentioned in the program's description, please take a look of the additional functionality available through its many plugins. In conclusion, I do recommend AkelPad over many other lightweight text editors, such as TED Notepad, Notepad2, Savage Ed, Metapad and Minipad2.
Re: AkelPadI forgot I am also using Getdiz for nfo and diz files. it is also a good text editor.
As much as I know memory is not much of a concern these days and why should one worry - that too for a text editor? The features are more important - with capacity to handle multiple language and format. I think "Notepad++" is a wise choice. Anyway I have provided details of Programmer's Notepad also - just check.
Re: AkelPad
I agree. Most systems today have at least 1 GB of RAM, so memory isn't much of a concern. I simply quoted the memory usage as a way of highlighting the differences I mentioned.
Did you check AkelPad's features? And also the additional features provided by its plugins? AkelPad can indeed handle multiple languages and formats. In my case, I associated AkelPad to txt files and use it as a (Windows) Notepad replacement and lightweight text editor. If I happen to need to perform more heavy text editing, then I launch a full blown text editor like PSPad, Notepad++ or RJ TextEd.
I just checked it. Looks like a good program.
Re: AkelPad
I have read, but will download and check.
