HELP -Liberkey not finding update for new installed software

Messagede newbie_01 » 28 Août 2009, 15:07

Hi,

The version of Firefox that comes with my first time use of Liberkey is Firefox Version 3.0.11. I made a copy of the Firefox folder that comes with this install and named it Firefox-02. so under the LiberkeyApps folder I have

LiberKeyFirefox
LiberKeyFirefox-02

The reason that I did this is because I want to have two (2) copies of Firefox so that I can run Firefox depending on which set of sessions I want to use. So for example, I use Firefox for all work related and Firefox-02 for all personal related work. Then if I exit from either instance, I can open the last known sessions from each instance.

Anyway, when I do a Check software updates using LiberKey, it upgraded/updated Firefox but not Firefox-02. Is there anyway that I can upgrade the version of Firefox that is on Firefox-02? Both Firefox are working, only the upgrade for Firefox-02 is not working. I also tried to do Check for Updates from within Firefox but that does not work either. Is there any configuration file that I have to update for LiberKey to include Firefox-02 in the Check software update?

Any response will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

P.S.: - BTW McAfee is reporting RegScanner as a virus threat.

Hello,

To update your Firefox-02 :

- rename Apps\Firefox to Firefox-01
- rename Apps\Firefox-02 to Firefox
- go to Firefox menu in Asuite, right-click Properties
- in the field version, decrease the version (ex : if 3.5.2, write 3.5.1)
- exit asuite
- launch LiberKey
- you can now update Firefox
- rename Apps\Firefox to Firefox-02
- rename Apps\Firefox-01 to Firefox

Hi,

Thanks a lot for a very quick response.

I tried as per your instruction but it still does not update.

- Shutdown LiberKey
- Rename Firefox to Firefox-01
- Rename Firefox-02 to Firefox
- Start LiberKey-ASuite and change the version
- Re-start LiberKey-ASuite
- Click on LiberKey Tools - Check software updates and it reports that Your LiberKey Applications are up to date

FYI, the Firefox version that am wanting to upgrade is Firefox 3.0.11.

I can manually force an upgrade by doing as below:

- Remove all sub-directories on Firefox-02
- Sync Firefox to Firefox-02
- Change compatibility.ini and extensions.ini to point to Firefox-02

Unfortunately that means, I lose all my sessions and bookmarks toolbar on Firefox-02 everytime that I want to upgrade Firefox on Firefox-02 because some of the Add-Ons stopped working because of some version mismatch.

Am still hunting around the LiberKey folder, there may be an XML or INI file that contains the information on what softwares from what directory are candidates for update.

It should work.
If it doesn't, something has been change for example the software name in asuite (Firefox).
Don't mix one firefox with firefox-02 (the profile for each one is in Data, if one firefox is 3.5.x and the other 3.0.x, you will have problems)

There is another solution, copy from firefox to firefox-02
- all files (even in the root) except the Data directory
