Links break after updating software

I'm having an odd problem with losing the links to my applications after Liberkey updates the applications. For example, when a program updates, liberkey seems to make a new folder for the update which is named something like "program_2010-09-23_08-01-10". The updated application is then installed into the new folder. The problem is that the link in the liberkey menu is not updated. The link continues to point to the original folder named "program".

The programs that are affected include (but I assume that they are not limited to):
XMedia Recode
Team Viewer
PDF-XChange Viewer
Notepad++
CCleaner

Keep the most recent (which have ***LKL.exe inside) folders, rename them (remove the date in names)
You will recover all of them.

How do I keep this from happening in the future?

It can happens for several reasons:
- application were not fully closed before the update, consequently, usual application folder can't be replaced by the new updated one (with the date inside its name)
- different user rights between the user who run the update this time and the user who ran an update previously (not neccessary the last time). It can happens more often under seven or vista if you used "run as administrator" or if you use several sessions
- an old dated (and bugged) Liberkey package of the application (e.g, very old openoffice or tagscanner packages)
