Thanks to some kind soul in the forum, I can save Liberkey files locally during updates.

Now, I wrote a sorter that puts all the files into the same directories on disk as the category names so that I can give these files to people with slow (or none) internet and they can install what they choose. But I had to create the category list manually and add to it each time I get a new file from the site.

Is there a way to get the category name and description (so I can store it with the categories) from the offline LKS file as well so people have a better chance what to choose to install?

Offline Liberkey packages (.lks) are already available in the catalog, see "offline setup" link in the application page.

Dji, I think you misunderstood his request.

.lks file are just normal archives. They can be opened with 7zip. I think a couple of files in the lks package may contain the description and category info.

1. *app_name*.lks -> package.lbk
2. *app_name*.lks -> *app_name*\*app_name*LKL.dat

Also the default.xml file has info
Path -> ..\\LiberKey\LiberKeyTools\LiberKeyMenu\data\Menu\default.xml

The LBK and dat files show up as Chinese characters on my system and I can't do anything with them. So I will try the XML file.

I want to create a TEXT catalogue file of all the offline files for my friends without internet (or dial-up) so they can choose what to install. The catalogue will tell them what the files are.

Just helping out the slowpokes and spreading LiberKey around:):)

Categories are listed in LiberKeyTools\LiberKeyMenu\data\categories.db.xml and applications in localapps.db.xml (same folder)
Using XML translation (XSL) with those files would be enough to generate your offline catalog

Sorry to revisit an old topic but I just got out of cancer surgery so I am very slow!!

What I mean wast, when I have a bunch of OFFLINE LiberKey LKS files, is there any way for me to read the category and description DIRECTLY from them as this is BEFORE they are installed so the data MAY NOT BE in the installed db yet?

So, I want to read the OFFLINE LKS file DIRECTLY for Category and DESCRIPTION.

P.S Never have surgery, it hurts!!
