Thank you Dji but there was no default.xml file in the mentioned folder. Let me tell how the problem poped up. When I plugged the usb stick into one of the USB slots, Windows offered 'scan & fix' and I did. After that this problem arrived. Maybe, I can use one of the recovery tools or start from the scratch!
