Application Update not working

Messagede vinnic » 20 Avril 2013, 12:32

LiberKey informs me that there are updates for some of my applications. However, when I click to install the updates from LiberKey Creator v 1.3.204, I get a a dialog box that says "An error happened during the download. Try again?" If I press the 'retry' button, I get the same message. I tried updating the applications on another computer, but it made no difference.

Sometimes I get an error message from LiberKey Apps Version Checker v1.3.204 without making it to LiberKey Creator. The message read "An error occurred while trying to recover information about LiberKey updates. Do you have access to internet on this computer?" I click on 'Yes' (I have cable broadband), but nothing happens other than the message disappearing.

Do you only got this message for Firefox and/or Thunderbird ? If yes, thy to download and launch their offline setup and let us know if it works.

Are you connected using Wifi to your internet box ? If yes and you got the error message only at windows startup, you have to wait for wifi and internet connection initialization before trying to update.

Answers to your questions:

No, I get the message when trying to update 7-zip, CCleaner, FreeFileSync, Notepad, Recuva, TeamViewer, and VLC media player. Firefox and Thunderbird are only optional updates, so I've unchecked them.

I don't just get the message at Windows startup. I get the same message when I'm connected to the internet via cable.

Hello

To try understand what happens exactly, could you activate logs:

Leave your Liberkey.
Edit Liberkey\LiberkeyTools\Installer\LkInst.xml and replace for LogToFile, no to yes like this :
Code: Tout sélectionner
<LbkInstaller>
  <Language file="LKInst_lng.xml">fr</Language>
  <AppsRoot>..\..\Apps</AppsRoot>
  <LogToFile>no</LogToFile>
</LbkInstaller>

substituted :
Code: Tout sélectionner
<LbkInstaller>
  <Language file="LKInst_lng.xml">fr</Language>
  <AppsRoot>..\..\Apps</AppsRoot>
  <LogToFile>yes</LogToFile>
</LbkInstaller>

Restart your Liberkey and retry updates.
Now, you can found a new directory named log in Liberkey\LiberkeyTools\Installer. Logs files in it are named YYYY-MM-DD.log
You can open them with Notepad ++ for example.

Did as instructed and created a log file for the error message: "An error occurred while trying to recover information about LiberKey updates. Do you have access to internet on this computer?" However, it only contains the following line:

10:47:26 | 1CB4 | Error | Error 91 (Object variable or With block variable not set) in Sub frmMain.Form_Unload

I did notice another log file created a couple of weeks ago that contained the same line plus more. The full contents are:

Since I haven't received any reply to my last post, I tried running the application update again and produced the following log files. I don't know why the contents are different.

07:40:05 | 1150 | Error | Erreur 10054 (Connection reset by peer.) dans Sub cHTTPGet.wsk_OnConnect

22:53:45 | 2228 | Error | Error: HTTPUpload_TransfertError 10053 => Software caused connection abort.
22:53:45 | 2228 | Error | Error. File upload result:
22:53:45 | 2228 | Error | Error sending sync data
22:53:46 | 2228 | Error | Error: HTTPUpload_TransfertError 10053 => Software caused connection abort.
22:53:46 | 2228 | Error | Error. File upload result:
22:53:46 | 2228 | Error | Error sending sync data
22:53:46 | 2228 | Error | Trying alternate send method..
22:53:50 | 2228 | Error | Alternate method server response: OK liberkey_sync
22:53:50 | 2228 | Error | File upload method OK!

Any further advice would be appreciated.

Hello.

I'm sorry, but for these problem, I don't have an explanation. As simple moderator, i can't see what happens on Liberkey' servers in the same time.
I hope Vagabond could answer you in few time.

Looks like a compatibility issue. On my 64-bit computer (Windows 8.1) updating stalls for minutes at a time. On my 32-bit computer (Windows 7) updating goes smoothly, like a charm!

Hi,

I am having the same problem.
OS: Windows 7 enterprise 64 bit
Error message: "An error occurred while trying to recover information about LiberKey updates. Do you have access to internet on this computer?"
After enabling logs all I get is:
Code: Tout sélectionner
15:13:01 | 3A8C | Loading language file : D:\LiberKey\LiberKeyTools\Installer\LKInst_en.xml
15:13:01 | 3A8C | Loaded text file as ANSI (auto) : D:\LiberKey\LiberKeyTools\Installer\LKInst_en.xml
15:13:01 | 3A8C | Current language: en
15:13:01 | 3A8C | Package introuvable ! []

I've tried with some other suggestions I found on this forum, but nothing helped.

But, I did notice something interesting.
When I go to LiberKeyMenu->LiberKey Tools -> Manage applications -> Browse the application catalog
The LiberKey web page opens and shows me which apps are for update. So I tried it through this menu.
Chrome was updated without problems, but Free Download Manager showed me the same message as earlier.
Furthermore, log file had some new entries after chrome installation, but nothing was in it when I would try to update Free Download Manager.

After that I also successfully updated Notepad++.

So, I think that for me, it was Free Download Manager that was causing issues, but maybe some other app is responsible for others.

Thanks,
Vladimir

It could also be because your antivirus is hanging files opened by Liberkey Installer (for some milliseconds but too longer) and avoid Liberkey for reading them. Not sure of that, but you could try to temporary deactivate (one minute) your antivirus in order to check that.
